The Pit Stop Program

The San Francisco Public Works Pit Stop Program provides clean, safe, and accessible public restrooms, along with used-needle disposal and dog waste stations, in the city’s most impacted neighborhoods. Each facility is staffed by trained attendants who ensure the restrooms are maintained, accessible, and used appropriately.

Beyond meeting basic sanitation needs, the Pit Stop Program promotes dignity and inclusion for all individuals, regardless of socioeconomic status or housing situation. By offering well-maintained restroom facilities, the program supports public health, enhances quality of life, and helps create a more welcoming and vibrant San Francisco.

How to Apply for the Pit Stop Program

Joining the San Francisco Public Works Pit Stop Program starts with completing an application.

Monday through Thursday | 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Friday | 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM

Minimum Requirements:

Age: Applicants must be 18 years or older.

Residency: Preference is given to San Francisco residents.

Identification: A valid photo ID is required.

Important Program Information

The Pit Stop Program is a time limited workforce development opportunity designed to support both community impact and individual growth.

Program Duration: Participants are not permanent. Participation can last up to one year maximum.

Professional Development: Throughout the year, Mission Hiring Hall, provides traininig, coaching, and career development support to help participants build new skills and prepare for long term opportuniteis

Next Steps: At the end of the program year, Mission Hiring Hall assist participants in transitioning into career pathways in construction, hospitality, retail, public sector work, and other industries.
